RE: Window Film Industry
Extremely Concerned About Misleading Information
The International Window Film Association (IWFA),
an industry trade association representing manufacturers,
distributors, and dealers of window film products worldwide, is
extremely concerned that misleading or false information about the
expected benefits of safety/security window film products may result
in consumers making misinformed decisions about protecting
themselves during high impact and wind events, such as hurricanes.
If some of these decisions are based on a lack of information, then
we wish to help alleviate the problem by making sure the public
knows where to get information. If this misinformation is based on
purposeful falsehoods or exaggerations of the expected benefits of
window film products, then we wish the authorities to be aware of
sources of accurate information so that they will be able to tell
for themselves who is providing misleading information.
To overcome this misinformation barrier, the
IWFA has taken the following steps:
- Prepared an accurate statement of the
general benefits and shortcomings of films used in hurricane
situations.
- Sent letters to all regional state
attorneys’ offices in Florida with copies of the abovementioned
statement.
- Sent copies of this letter to all media
outlets of which the IWFA is aware in Florida.
- Posted the industry statement on our
website at www.iwfa.com, in both the public and members’
sections.
- Sent copies of the letter to the state
attorneys, the letter to the media, and the statement itself to
all members of the IWFA in Florida.
