BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The holder of this position is responsible for answering questions from the Bekaert Specialty Films (BSF) sales organization, service center personnel and customers regarding how to use BSF window film products, problems with BSF window film products, etc. He/She is technically knowledgeable about the make-up and installation of window films products and is very customer savvy. The team and its members are global-thinking and acting, and take into account different glazing and filming situations across the globe. The position holder is also accountable for providing the sales team with pro-active technical information and – in close cooperation with field sales – for educating customers/installers in the field re: Technical specifications of window film. This position reports to the BSF VP of Technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

This position will be the “go to” person(s) for all inquiries from our sales team, service centers and customers regarding any technical problem and/or issue that cannot be resolved at the sale/service center level (BSF’s window film “fire department”). Responses to technical services inquiries will be expected within a few hours up to 48 hours maximum.

· This position must be able to travel to a service center and/or customer site on short notice, if needed, to facilitate resolution of a customer/service center window film product problem.

This position will audit the use of BSF’s window film products at customers’ sites/shops as opportunities arise. This will enable BSF to continuously monitor the fitness-for-use of our products.
This position will be BSF’s front line “eyes and ears” for what’s next on the horizon of potential new products and services by being aware of what our customers are doing and what kind of products they are using.
This position will assist the VP of Technology to implement the necessary systems/means for BSF field sales people to be technical/commercially pro-active (e.g. training on use of technical specs and technical website pages).
This position will be responsible for creating BSF’s window film product technical and application bulletins – on a global basis (bearing in mind different glazing systems across the globe, e.g. different films/glazing system combinations, energy transfer differences with different types of film/glazing systems).
This position will represent BSF with market influencers such as architects, where their technical input is required.
This position will search for relevant norms and standards for BSF window films, across the globe, and will contribute to set up and keep up-to-date a listing of above, including the facilitation of ongoing testing of window films to various global norms and standards. (For example, safety film certification standards.)
This position will monitor competitive developments in the field and coordinate competitive product benchmarking within BSF.
This position will become knowledgeable and able to use BSF’s new energy savings software tools.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must have experience in the window film industry, preferably in a technical and/or installation capacity for at least 4 years.
Needs to have experience with different glazing systems and be knowledgeable about glass.
Must have excellent people skills as this position will have significant exposure to BSF’s key accounts (incl. How to communicate technical figures into real advantages for customers, e.g. reduction of installation time, increase of energy savings, etc.)
Must be proficient in commonly used software programs (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project). Previous experience using Lotus Notes is preferred.
Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills.
Ability to travel, both domestically and internationally on short notice required.
Must be a Team Player – close interaction within the Technical Services Team and, Marketing, Sales and QA (specification sheets, technical advisories, technical product positioning).

The Process Engineer is directly responsible for ongoing efforts to continually improve our Coating & Laminating processes, including optimization of all processes within BSF and supplier quality to improve product quality and consistency and minimize manufacturing costs.

Your Role: You review, analyze, and make suggestions for improvement on the following: optimization of line speed and through-puts, optimization of thermal and UV curing conditions, minimization of yield losses, improved change-over, setup and clean-up times, proper tension settings, reduced film shrinkage and heat stress, improved optical clarity, and reduced defect and off-spec conditions.

You implement process changes to meet the above goals while continually documenting all process changes in appropriate systems.
You set-up new processes, particularly with respect to projects in the Bekaert Marketing Roadmap process.
You work with R&D and Manufacturing in generating the work instructions for all new projects as they advance to the Agreement to Test Sales (ATTS) phase.
You work under the direction of the Director of Process Improvement to bring in new process technology as needed and take the lead on investigating new equipment sources, offering recommendations for equipment purchases.
You develop statistical process control studies to characterize existing processes; identifies areas in greatest need of improvement.
You run production and pilot trials, particularly those involving new and modified processes.
Works with R&D to propose material changes that will improve overall quality and/or reduce costs.
You remain knowledgeable of state of the art in current and aware of future coating and laminating technology trends.

You lead process improvement and simple product qualification projects, particularly those with little materials development but significant process development.
You assist with running production trials as needed.
You assist with developing process test methods for Manufacturing and QA departments.
