From: Ben Ford,
Legislative Chairman
Subject:
Michigan - Senate Bill 682
Date: January
15, 2004
A
legislative alert concerning Senate bill 682, sponsored by Senators
Cherry, Basham and Brater, was issued to you last October 31, 2003.
Senator Cherry’s assistant advises that SB 682 is now pending
additional amendments and input from the State Police. The State
Police have previously stated the reason for the amendments are to
“lighten up” the rear windows.
We
need to oppose the amendments because changing “reflectance” to
“absorptance” is not enforceable and serves no useful purpose.
Additionally, if the rear windows are to be “lightened”, our
industry should be allowed a light film on the front side windows.
If we don’t provide input to Senator Cherry and members of the
Transportation Committee, it is likely the amendment will pass and
therefore may be very restrictive.
A
list of SB 682 sponsors and the Transportation Committee members is
attached. The two key persons to contact are Senator Cherry and
Senator Gilbert. Please take a few minutes each day to express your
concern.
