Subject: Georgia Legislation – House Bill 1244
Date:
February 10, 2004
Representative Bobby Eugene Parham has introduced House Bill 1244.
There are two changes:
1)
The amendment deletes the
effective date of the current section that is “January 1, 1990.” The
effect will be, if the amendment passes, that the current law will
apply to all vehicles. (No problem.)
2)
The current law exempts motor vehicles that are not registered in
the state of Georgia. The amendment, if passed, will make it illegal
to operate any motor vehicle violating this section
irrespective of where it is registered. (This is a problem.)
This is not a good bill for our industry or
the public. Representative Parham is chairman of the Motor Vehicles
Committee; Betty Swaim (404-656-5132) is the senior staff person.
Please express your opposition to Representative Parham and other
members of the committee listed below. You may view this amendment
