From:  Ben Ford, Legislative Committee Chairman

Subject:  Rhode Island Legislation – House Bill 7534

Date:  February 16, 2004

Representatives Trillo and Long have introduced House Bill 7534 that provides a medical exemption; this bill has been referred to the House Corporations Committee. The amendment allows no less than 70% total light transmittance, plus or minus 3%, on the windshield and the front side windows and no less than 35% total VLT, plus or minus 3%, on the rear side windows and also the rear window if the vehicle is equipped with two outside rear view mirrors, one on each side.

The person operating the vehicle shall keep in the vehicle a written statement from a medical doctor, licensed in the state of Rhode Island, which states that said person’s physical condition requires the utilization of such material or application on said vehicle.

This legislation is certainly not what we want, but it is a move in the right direction and should be supported. Please contact the following sponsors to show your support.  For more information, visit http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/gen_assembly/genmenu.html.
