SUBJECT:  UPDATED!  Mississippi Legislation HB164, HB524, SB2204

A Legislative Alert was sent to members on January 29, 2004, relative to House Bill 164 and subsequently to House Bill 524 and Senate Bill 2204. 

House Bill 164 and Senate Bill 2204 remained in Committee but the Chairman sent House Bill 524 to Representative Greg Ward for consideration.  House Bills 164 and 524 were essentially the same with the exception that the inspection fee of $5.00 was applied to inspections under HB 524 whether the actual tinting inspection was performed or not. 

Lynwood Butner discussed the proposed legislation with Representative Ward and expressed the concerns of IWFA and its members.  Representative Ward indicated he would like to learn more about the issues to make sure the citizens of Mississippi benefited from the best possible legislation in this area.  Representative Ward agreed to carry over the bill and work with Mr. Butner and the Association during the summer to better understand the issues.  Col. Suthard and Lynwood Butner are preparing specific information that has been requested and have also agreed to work with the Representative and Transportation Committee in the future on this important legislation.

We were very fortunate to work with Representative Ward and sincerely appreciate his support and desire to better understand the complex issues arising from this type of legislation.
