Status of Georgia HB 20
Governor Perdue
signed House Bill 20. As most of you will
remember, on June 8, 2004, the IWFA issued a legislative alert
informing
its membership of the decision of the Georgia Supreme Court with
regard
to the inapplicability of the law to out-of-state motorists. As a
result, the
entire law was declared null and void.
Through the efforts
of Representative Calvin Hill and members in Georgia
over the last year, House Bill 20 has been signed into law. House
Bill 20 restores the window tinting statutes to
what they were before the ruling, but
now they also include out of state motorists. Representative Hill
was able
to maintain the former light transmittance requirements, so that you
may continue to operate your
business as you did in the past.
The IWFA and the
Legislative Consultant would like to express our most
sincere appreciation to those of you who continued to tint as if the
law
had still been enforceable over the last eleven months. It is
because of
your dedication to the industry that we were able to have such
great success at the State House.
Just as a refresher,
below are the requirements outlined by the Georgia
window film law:
1) Front and rear
side windows and the rear windshield may be
tinted so that 32% of the light hitting the window passes
through the window and the aftermarket film.
2) The top six
inches of the windshield may have film applied
provided that film is not amber or red in color.
3) The rear
windows of MPVs are exempt from the 32% light transmittance
standards.
