LEGISLATIVE ALERT
To: Maine
Manufacturers, Distributors, and Installers
From: IWFA Office
Date: June 4, 2007
Subject: Passage of LD
1487
Congratulations are in order to all of those responsible for the
passage of
LD 1487 in the state of Maine. Special thanks are due to Ray Simond,
Legislative Director of the Maine Custom Auto Association, for his
pro- active role in
the drafting and passage of this legislation. This new law,
which the Governor signed on May 29, 2007, is a shining example of
how to address the legislative needs of our industry through the
hard work
of our members in conjunction with IWFA and the Legislative
Consultant provided by the AIMCAL-Window Film
Committee.
Please note that this new law will not be effective until 90 days
after the end of this legislative
session, so it may not take effect until this fall
of 2007.
LD
1487 significantly changes the law to allow for a lower light trans-
mission film and easier enforcement. It is now legal to tint the
side and
rear windows of a passenger vehicle down to 35% VLT when measured
in conjunction with the glass. It allows for the tinting of the AS-1
portion of the
windshield up to five inches below the top of the windshield.
If you have further questions regarding the
new law, please contact the
IWFA office at (276) 666-4932..
